Helping business continuity and recovery planning teams respond to a cyber attack
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans may need to be reviewed considering the increased risks related to cyber threats and attacks.
For organisations who have built their resilience capability to respond to ‘all-risks’, many of the business continuity frameworks, tools and capabilities can also be used for cyber threats.
Organisations yet to build an ‘all risks’ approach to becoming resilient can draw upon ‘better practice’ thinking used by organisations in high-risk industries which involves the following steps:
- Understand and meet the changing needs of the regulators for your industry.
- Review your cyber security response team capability as part of your broader incident and response capability and against better practice organisational resilience.
- Identify gaps that may exist or areas of excellence that can be applied to cyber risks.
- Facilitate discussions on complex and technical decisions regarding cyber security threats and validate appropriate business continuity arrangements.
- Design and develop scenario planning using in person or Digital War Rooms to build a shared view of the risks, threats and opportunities and develop contingency plans if they don’t already exist.
- Identify a Critical Thinking Framework that can be used by the business continuity teams to ensure an agile and adaptive approach to business disruptions.
