Responding to the impacts of Cyber Security Threats
Many boards and executives are navigating uncharted waters in responding to the increased threats and impacts of cyber security risks. For organisations who have built their resilience capability to respond to ‘all-risks’, many of the frameworks, tools and capabilities can also be used for cyber threats. Organisations yet to build an ‘all risks’ approach to becoming resilient can draw upon better practice thinking.
The key steps to building cyber resilience and providing assurance include:
- Conduct a review of current capability against standards or regulations, relative to your industry and identify areas that need immediate action.
- Review your cyber security response capability as part of your broader resilience capability and against better practice Organisational Resilience. Identify gaps that may exist or areas of excellence to be applied to cyber risks.
- Conduct a Board or Executive Level War Room to uncover areas of concern or build assurance.
- Elevate high-quality transparent decision-making to ‘business critical’ and identify a Critical Thinking Framework that can be used at all levels of your organisation to review and build capability and provide assurance to key stakeholders.
- Facilitate discussions on complex and technical Board and Executive level decisions regarding cyber security attacks, such as paying a ransom, and reach consensus on your decision using the Critical Thinking Framework.
- Endorse a Critical Thinking Capability Uplift Program for high priority teams initially and then across the enterprise to ensure teams have the skills to avoid, detect, manage, and recover from on-going cyber security risks.
- Undertake Executive and Board Crisis Training
